Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Rover Echo™?

Rover Echo™ is an electronic backup solution designed with IBM Continuous Data Protection (CDP) for Files software that automatically backs up data for businesses and individual consumers.

Rover Echo™ provides automatic, simple, effective, real-time file protection against a growing list of threats to data including: file corruption, file loss, accidental file deletion, unwanted file alterations, hard drive crashes, theft, viruses, and natural disasters.

Rover Echo™ delivers a choice of backup devices that include USB Flash Cards, Travel Size Removable Hard Drives, local servers and offsite data storage.

2. Who can benefit from Rover Echo™?

The average home computer user, mobile workforce member or enterprise can benefit from Rover Echo™. More specifically, any laptop or desktop computer that is not currently part of an automatic backup routine. Most people forget to perform regular backups and don't recognize its importance until the worst has already occurred.

3. What differentiates Rover Echo™ from other backup solutions?

Rover Technology Fusions is the first company to produce a product that incorporates IBM Tivoli CDP for Files software. This IBM software has been available for several years, but only through download via the Internet.  Now the software is provided in conjunction with a wide variety of hardware to support additional replication.
Rover Echo™ performs data backups automatically, and offers many other value-added features from Rover Technology Fusions. RTF provides an integrated solution with future releases offering additional proprietary software like Rover Sync (to protect contact lists on Windows mobile devices) and a clear migration path for business growth (the ability to move your data off-site to Rover's Data Center). Buying this backup technology from an integrator eliminates the hassle of trying to figure it out on your own. There is also an advantage to working with one company that can address your future backup needs and provide responsive technical support, if needed. In addition, RTF offers a lifetime warranty on the hardware.

4. What is Continuous Data Protection for Files software?

This software represents a new approach to backup by providing real-time, continuous data-protection for mobile computers, workstations, and personal computers. Files are backed up the moment that they change instead of waiting for a traditional scheduled backup. The software works in the background, much like a virus scanner, and is therefore totally transparent to the end user.

5. How can I determine what size Rover Echo™ card I require?

Click on the Echo Meter to determine your current data size and Rover Echo™ drive requirements. We recommend choosing a capacity larger than your current data set for growth consideration.

6. How do I install Rover Echo™ and how much disk space will it take up?

Installation is simple. The first time you connect the device, a screen will launch that directs you through the initial setup. The software installs on your hard drive and takes up approximately 43 MB of disk space. (Does this still apply?

7. Rover Echo™ didn't automatically launch. What do I do?

Go to www.RoverEcho.com and follow the directions.

8. I'm having trouble downloading the software. What Do I do?

10. What do I have to do to make the backup run when I connect my Rover Echo™?

Nothing. Rover Echo™ is automatically detected each time you plug it in. New files will automatically replicate to the Rover Echo™ device.

11. How many file versions will Rover Echo™ store?

By default, Rover Echo™ stores up to the five most recent versions of any file saved. In addition, your local backup is set to the same size as the Rover Echo™ device you are using. As a result, the oldest file copies will be deleted to create room for new versions.

12. Is the data stored on Rover Echo™ protected?

Rover Echo™ offers an encryption feature to ensure that the data stored on your Rover Echo™ device cannot be viewed by anyone without an authentic password should the card be lost or stolen. Activate the encryption feature by simply checking the appropriate box on the settings page. Please store your password in a safe location for future reference.
